I changed the tax address, do I need to change the driving license address?

Anonim

After moving house some time ago, I found myself wondering “do I have to change my driving license address”?

Now, as often happens, this simple question that haunted my “spirit” for some time automatically became the motto for an article and the result is here.

After all, is it necessary or not to change the driving license address when we change the tax address? Well, in a very simple and quick way the answer is no, it is not necessary to change. Besides, not only do you not have to change the address on your driving license, you obviously don't have to change it. Why? In the next lines I'll give you the answer.

The new model of the driving license continues to include the indication of the address.

Effects of the “Simplex” program

As you may have already noticed, since driving licenses issued from January 2017 onwards, they no longer have any reference to the driver's address.

That said, it has been precisely since 2017 that it is no longer necessary to change the driving license address after changing the tax residence. The disappearance of the reference to the address on the driving license was one of the measures of the “Carta Sobre Rodas” project (inserted in the Simplex program).

In this way, the address information is now only available in the IMT database, starting to be directly based on the information present in the Citizen's Card.

Bearing this in mind, whenever you change your tax residence on the Citizen's Card, the driving license address is automatically updated, so it is not necessary to make any changes.

At the same time, this data sharing also means that the photograph and signature have to be collected only once, being identical on the Citizen's Card and on the driving license.
