Update on 06/19/2019: we received a response from the Ministry of Justice regarding the application of the new Documento Único Automóvel
After a few years the old property registration and registration (one was blue and the other green, remember?) gave way to Single Automobile Document (DUA), which now gathers data from both documents, is in the pipeline for another change to the “citizen card” of our cars.
The measure was announced today by the Ministry of Justice and defines that, as of August 1, the DUA will have the format of a card (similar to the Citizen's Card). The objective is not only to facilitate access to its content but also to allow it to be easily carried in the wallet.
The measure is coordinated by the Registry and Notary Institute (IRN), in collaboration with the Mobility and Transport Institute (IMT), the National Mint Press (INCM) and the various transit inspection bodies (GNR, PSP and ANSR) and is defined by the Ministry of Justice as a Simplex+ measure, included in the Plano Justiça+Próxima.
The application will be gradual
Despite entering into force on August 1st, the application of the new DUA will be gradual. So, initially this will only apply to new registrations. In 2020, this is expected to reach all vehicles in circulation.

Communiqué from the Ministry of JusticeThe DUA in the Portfolio is a Simplex+ measure included in the Plano Justiça +Próxima, which also aims to simplify the information content available in the document and gathers data relating to the characteristics of the vehicle and its owner.
After we asked the Ministry of Justice whether it would be mandatory to replace the current DUA with the new one, it confirmed that for those who have the old DUA (or even the registration booklet and title) the replacement is not mandatory.
Therefore, this change will occur under the same circumstances in which it occurred until now, that is, when the old registration and registration of ownership were transferred to the Documento Único Automóvel
