EMEL will be able to control speed in Lisbon

Anonim

Until now responsible for parking management in Lisbon, EMEL has now seen its functions expanded. From now on, in addition to being able to fine and block cars improperly parked in its parking lots, EMEL will be able to apply fines for speeding.

This is not the first time that Lisbon City Council has delegated the “burden” of controlling Lisbon's traffic to companies. In case you don't remember, just a few months ago, the municipal executive approved the possibility of Carris issuing notice of drivers who improperly circulate in the BUS lane or who are stopped there.

The fact that EMEL can issue fines for speeding in Lisbon is added to the possibility that the maximum speed on the 2nd Circular will drop from the current 80 km/h to 50 km/h, as announced by the councilor for Mobility in the Lisbon City Council, Michael Gaspar.

PSP — stop operation
It is not yet known whether EMEL will also be able to carry out STOP operations within the capital.

How will it work?

To ensure that EMEL is able to control speeding in the capital, as the law approved today, April 1st, allowed, Lisbon City Council will offer the company 15 mobile radars with which it will then do various inspection actions.

In addition to the mobile radars, EMEL will also have access to data from the fixed radars of the SINCRO network in the Greater Lisbon area and will then be able to send the fines to the drivers' homes. Despite the measure approved on April 1st, it is not yet known whether EMEL will carry out STOP operations or whether it will limit itself to sending the fines to the drivers' homes by mail.
