Why SF90? A reference to the Scuderia Ferrari's 90th anniversary, with the Stradale indicating that it is a road model — SF90 is also the name of Ferrari's Formula 1 car, so the addition of Stradale… sets the two apart.

The key number for this model. It is the first Ferrari on the road to achieve a four-digit value, surpassing the 963 hp of the LaFerrari — which also combined a combustion engine with an electrical component — but the way in which it hits them couldn't be more different.

Unlike the LaFerrari, there's no raucous V12 behind its back — the SF90 Stradale uses an evolution of the award-winning V8 twin turbo (F154) of the 488 GTB, 488 Pista and F8 Tribute. The capacity has grown slightly from 3.9 to 4.0 l, with many of its components being redesigned, such as the combustion chamber, and the intake and exhaust systems.

As you can imagine, marrying the internal combustion engine with three electric motors and a battery, the SF90 Stradale would never be too light. The total weight amounts to 1570 kg (dry, ie without fluids and conductor), of which 270 kg refer only to the hybrid system.

However, many measures were taken by Ferrari to control the weight. When maximum downforce is required, electric actuators lower the wing's movable section, or “shut-off Gurney”, preventing air from passing under the wing, leaving the fixed section visible, and creating a new rear geometry, more friendly to aerodynamic load.

Inside the Ferrari SF90 Stradale we find an evolution of the Manettino, called… eManettino. This is where we can select the various driving modes: eDrive, Hybrid, Performance and Qualify.

If the first is what gives access to 100% electric mobility, the hybrid is the default mode where management between combustion engine and electric motors is carried out automatically. in mode performance , the combustion engine remains always on, with the priority being on battery charging, rather than efficiency in Hybrid mode. Finally, the mode Qualify is what unlocks all the performance potential of the SF90 Stradale, especially regarding the 220 hp provided by electric motors — only performance matters in this mode.

In order to involve the “pilot” as much as possible with the controls of the SF90 Stradale, Ferrari took its inspiration from aeronautics, and designed its first 100% digital instrument panel — a high definition 16″ curved screen, an absolute first in a production car.

The result of this laborious task led Ferrari to create a new iteration of its SSC, now called eSSC (Electronic Side Slip Control), which effectively distributes the power generated by the combustion engine or electric motor to the wheel that needs it.
