The conclusions are from INRIX , international consultant of intelligence services for transport, in its Annual Traffic Report 2015 (2015 Traffic Scorecard). An international benchmark for measuring the progress of urban mobility.

The report analyzed urban congestion in 13 European countries and 96 cities during 2015. Portugal ranks 12th in the ranking of the most congested countries in Europe, led by Belgium, where drivers lost an average of 44 hours in traffic jams.

In Portugal, each driver spends only an average of 6 hours in traffic. Better only in Hungary, where each driver spends only 4 hours in traffic queues. In the ranking for cities, London (England) appears in 1st place with 101 hours, followed by Stuttgart (Germany) with 73 hours and Antwerp (Belgium) with 71 hours. The city of Lisbon is not even mentioned in this ranking.

Conclusions of this study

INRIX 2015 Traffic Scorecard analyzes and compares the state of traffic congestion in 100 major metropolitan areas worldwide.

The report reveals that the cities most affected by urban traffic are those that have experienced the greatest economic growth. Demographic growth, higher employment rates and declining oil prices are the main reasons given for the increase in traffic registered between 2014 and 2015.

Currently, INRIX uses more than 275 million vehicles, smartphones and other devices to gather the data contained in these reports. Access the full study through this link.
