And it happened… Ford GT breaks 300 mph in just one mile

At a time when 300 mph (482 km/h) is the hurdle everyone wants to hit with a production car, with several contenders for that title — Koenigsegg Jesko, Hennessey Venom F5 and SSC Tuatara — a Ford GT first-generation, properly prepared and articulated by M2K Motorsports, did it last weekend in another edition of the Texas Mile.

This particular Ford GT from M2K Motorsports is no stranger to the pages of Ledger Automobile. Two years ago we were reporting precisely a new record he achieved, when he reached 293.6 mph (472.5 km/h) in a distance of one mile, or 1.6 km, a record he held until… the weekend past.

In this year's edition, the M2K Motorsports Ford GT returned and beat its own record by an impressive 18 km/h, becoming the first automobile to break the 300 mph barrier , reaching a new world record.

The maximum speed he achieved in just 1600 m was fixed in the 300.4 mph, or 483.4 km/h , an amazing feat on all levels. The speed measured at the intermediate points (1/4 mile and 1/2 mile) is no less impressive — it reached 280.8 km/h in the first 400 m and 386.2 km/h in just 800 m!

As you can imagine this Ford GT is not exactly standard to achieve such acceleration capabilities. It still maintains 5.4 V8 Supercharged, which originally debits 550 hp, it is estimated that it is debiting around 2500 hp… on wheels(!) . However, traction only remains at the rear wheels and the gearbox is still manual, as if it were standard.

Stay with the record-setting video — there was a first attempt where they got 299.2 mph, already a record in itself, but on the second attempt, finally, 300 mph was achieved.
