Official. The Lamborghini Countach is back

Anonim

Mandatory presence on the bedroom wall of all teenagers in love with automobiles in the 1980s, the Lamborghini Countach it is, even today, one of the most iconic models of the Italian brand.

It shocked the world with its design in the 70s, a contrast to its more sensual and elegant predecessor, the Miura (considered by many to be the first supercar), and it became the archetype of the contemporary supercar (V12 engine in central longitudinal position). rear), configuration that still prevails in the Aventador (“only” the brand's best-selling V12 ever).

At a time when it is taking big steps towards an electrified future, Lamborghini decided to resurrect its icon, a tribute to the model's 50th anniversary — the first prototype was known in 1971, but commercialization only took off in 1974 — that we can confirm in the post seen on your Instagram account.

privileged access

The brand had promised to launch two new V12 models this year. The first was the Ultimae, which represents the farewell of the Aventador and the second will be this tribute to the Countach, now confirmed.

However, although we are close to its revelation, details about the new Lamborghini Countach are scarce. However, what was not revealed to "ordinary mortals", was revealed to others with privileged access who released some more information.

The Italian brand took advantage of its exclusive “Unica” application (a kind of social network for the brand's model owners) to show one more detail of the new model: its name. The image, meanwhile released on the Instagram page lamborghini.specs, shows that the new model will be named Countach LPI 800-4.

What is already known?

The designation gives us the first data on what to expect. LP stands for "Longitudinal Posterior" referring to engine placement (as in the original Countach and also in the Aventador), while the 800-4 is a reference to power, 800 hp, and the number of drive wheels, four.

However, the “I” in LPI means “ibrido” (hybrid in Italian), which is in line with the advance by The Supercar Blog, in which Countach's cinematic chain should be based on that of the Sián FKP 37 hybrid. This means that it must have an electric motor and a supercondenser.

Lamborghini Countach original
Originally, the Countach had much less aerodynamic appendages, and it will be on this version that the new one will be inspired.

With two car events “at the door” — the Monterey Car Week and the Munich Motor Show — the new Lamborghini Countach is expected to be unveiled at the event held in California, given its greater exclusivity.

As an homage to the Lamborghini Countach — it seems that its design will be closer to the early Countach than to the exuberant examples of the 80s — it will most likely be a limited edition and therefore its price should reflect that. exclusivity.
