Porsche 911 GT2 RS is (again) the king of the Nürburgring

THE Porsche is a very competitive brand. The best proof of this is that the absolute record at the Nürburgring was not enough for him and he went after the record among road-legal cars that belonged to the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ with a Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

The time achieved by the 911 GT2 RS was just 6min40.3s. This value allows Porsche to crown the 911 GT2 RS as the fastest road car in the “Green Inferno”, as the previous record holder, the Aventador SVJ, had stayed for 6min44.97s.

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS that set the record is not entirely standard. Both the chassis and the suspension were improved to face the Nürburgring by a team of engineers from the brand and by Manthey Racing, which races the 911 RSR in the endurance world championship and produces aftermarket parts for the cars of Stuttgart.

Modified but "road-cool"

Despite the modifications, Porsche argues that the model is eligible for the record, as the changes made by the technicians were focused on the car's ability to ride on the road and there was no tampering with the engine. So the 911 GT2 RS counted with the 3.8 l of 700 hp to reach the record.

Manthey Racing also equipped the 911 GT2 RS with an aerodynamic pack, magnesium wheels and improved brakes, in addition to a competition drumstick. All of these upgrades can be purchased by 911 GT2 RS owners in Europe, and even with them the car can still travel on the road legally.

Driving the record-breaking 911 GT2 RS was Lars Kern who had already set the circuit record a year ago with an unmodified 911 GT2 RS (with a time of 6min 47.25s) before Lamborghini overtook him with the Aventador SVJ. The circuit's absolute record holder is the racing Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo with a time of 5min19.55s.
