Cold Start. Diesel POWER! Even today the Audi Q7 V12 TDI impresses

THE Audi Q7 V12 TDI shows how fast the world has changed. Today it's all about electrics, but 12 years ago diesel engines were still looked to as a technological exponent.

And Audi has contributed a lot to this. The brand dominated Le Mans for several years with the R10 TDI, a racing prototype with a diesel V12. It would only be a matter of time before we see something similar in a road car.

He tried us first with an R8 V12 TDI — a Diesel supercar... — but it never got past the prototype stage. A heresy of which we have already told you the story:

However, the colossal block would find a place in the Q7, the brand's first SUV, with unusual numbers for a… Diesel: 6.0 V12, biturbo, delivering 500 hp and 1000 Nm (at ridiculous 1750 rpm). The four-wheel transmission was ensured by a six-speed ZF automatic transmission.

The Q7 V12 TDI was covertly fast despite the 2.7 tonnes: 5.5s from 0-100 km/h and 250 km/h top speed. Numbers that still impress today, let alone in 2008, when it was released.

The AutoTopNL channel had the opportunity to revisit the model and took it, as usual, to the autobahn, where this mechanical colossus felt comfortably at home.
