Bullitt returns to action. Ford reissues Steve McQueen's Mustang

Model who, among other high moments, became famous for his participation in the policeman “Bullitt”, an action film where he “starred” with actor Steve McQueen, the Ford Mustang returns to show, 50 years later, the name Bullitt. This time, based on the GT version and its 5.0 liter gasoline V8, though, in this special edition Ford Mustang Bullitt, with a lot more style and power — 475 hp minimum , claims the manufacturer!

“Introduced” for the first time in 1968, the movie's release date with Steve McQueen, the Ford Mustang Bullitt that the blue oval brand now makes known is scheduled for release next summer, in the US. It is not known, at least for the time being, if any units will arrive in Europe.

Mustang Bullitt — No Badges, Like In The Movie

The Mustang Bullitt stands out for being proposed only in Shadow Black and Dark Highland Green, the latter being shown by McQueen's car, which later adds some chrome elements around the front grille and front windows, in addition to the classic 19” five-arm aluminum wheels. The model still stands out for an almost total absence of logos, except, in the center of the rear, the emblem of this special version — a sighting point, with the word “Bullitt” in the center.

Inside, in addition to a manual transmission, whose grip is a white ball, in what is a direct reference to the original model, a 12-inch LCD digital instrument panel, with functions identical to the system adopted for the new Mustang, which recalls the Ford will arrive in Europe at the end of the year. Not to mention an exclusive “Bullitt” welcome screen, which starts in a green tone, with the image of the car instead of the horse.

5.0 liter V8 with characteristic “bubbling”

As engine, the new Mustang Bullitt uses the same V8 5.0 liters of the GT version, although with increased power, “at least”, up to 475 hp, reveals the blue oval mark.

Also standard is a high-performance exhaust system with an exhaust valve, specifically recalibrated to give the car the characteristic sound of the original model, reminiscent of a kind of “bubbling”.

This new Bullitt is, in the image of Steve McQueen, casually 'cool'. As a designer, it's my favorite Mustang, no stripes, spoilers, and badges. You don't need to say anything: it's simply 'cool'

There were two, not one

As for the original model, which featured in the movie that hit theaters on October 17, 1968, it is worth remembering that not one, but two, 1968 Mustang GT fastbacks were exactly alike, doing the scenes. Among which, the famous chase through the steep streets of San Francisco, marked by several jumps.

At the end of the shoot, the two cars, however, had different destinations: while the one driven by McQueen was sold by Warner Bros., to a private buyer, the other, used in most of the jumps of the aforementioned chase, ended up having as its destination a scrap metal dealer. Only to be found again in early 2017, in Baja, California, USA.

The other, has remained missing, until now, when it was learned that it was in the possession of Sean Kiernan, whose father, Robert, had bought it in 1974. Inherited by his son in 2014, the Mustang “movie star” returned like this to appear at the launch of the new Bullitt.
