Jeep Compass. Renovation brings 100% new interior

Launched in 2017, the Jeep Compass it has just undergone an important update that gives it, among other things, more technological arguments, such as the semi-autonomous driving system (Level 2) and a completely redesigned interior.

Produced in Melfi, Italy, the revamped Compass is the first Jeep launch in Europe with the Stellantis Group.

On the “old continent”, the Compass already represents more than 40% of Jeep sales, with one in four Compass sold being a plug-in hybrid, technology that (of course) is also present in this in-depth upgrade of the model.

Headlights have been redesigned, as well as the front grille.

In fact, the Compass engine range, in addition to plug-in hybrids, continues to feature petrol and diesel engines, all of which comply with Euro 6D Final regulations.

Diesel has not been forgotten

In the Diesel chapter, we find the updated version of the 1.6 Multijet II, now capable of offering 130 hp of power (at 3750 rpm) and 320 Nm of maximum torque (at 1500 rpm). We are talking about a 10 hp increase in power over the 1.6 Diesel engine of the previous model, which also translates into 10% lower consumption and lower CO2 emissions (11 g/km less on the WLTP cycle).

The petrol range already includes a four-cylinder 1.3 turbo GSE engine which is available with two power levels: 130 hp and 270 Nm of maximum torque with a six-speed manual transmission; or 150 hp and 270 Nm with dual clutch transmission also with six speeds. Common to these two versions is the fact that power is sent exclusively to the front axle.

Bet on electrification

On the other hand, the plug-in hybrid offer is based on a four-cylinder 1.3 turbo petrol engine associated with an electric motor (with 60 hp and 250 Nm) mounted on the rear axle and a 11.4 kWh battery.

There are two 4x versions — as all 4×4 models with hybrid engines are called — of the Compass, with 190 hp or 240 hp (always with 270 Nm of torque) and six-speed automatic transmission.

Rear light groups feature a distinct cut.

For these electrified versions, Jeep promises accelerations from 0 to 100 km/h around 7.5s (depending on the version) and a maximum speed of 200 km/h in hybrid mode and 130 km/h in electric mode.

The electric range varies between 47 and 49 km, depending on the version chosen, with CO2 emissions between 44 g/km and 47 g/km, according to the WLTP cycle.

Interior underwent revolution

The changes to the Compass's exterior are quite discreet, but the same cannot be said of the cabin, which has undergone a veritable revolution.

Compass's interior underwent an important evolution.

One of the most notable innovations is the new customizable 10.25” digital instrument panel and the new Uconnect 5 infotainment system, accessible on an 8.4” or 10.1” touchscreen.

In addition to the wireless integration with the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems, a feature that is available as standard in all versions, Uconnect 5 also offers integration with Amazon Alexa, through the “Home to Car” interface offered by the “My app” Uconnect”.

New touch screen (8.4” or 10.1”) is one of the great highlights of the renewed Compass.

Other highlights include TomTom navigation with voice recognition and real-time traffic updates (with remote map updates) and the wireless charging base for smartphones (standard from Longitude level onwards).

semi-autonomous driving

In the safety chapter, the renewed Compass also presents itself with new arguments, as it now makes available, as standard, frontal collusion prevention and lane crossing alert systems, traffic sign recognition, driver drowsiness alert and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist recognition.

This is, moreover, the first Jeep in Europe to offer assistance when driving on the motorway, in other words, a semi-autonomous driving system — Level 2 on the autonomous driving scale — which combines adaptive cruise control with the maintenance system in the center of the lane . However, this functionality will only be available in the second half of the year, as an option.

Five levels of equipment

The new Compass range consists of five equipment levels — Sport, Longitude, Limited, S and Trailhawk — and the new special 80th Anniversary series, a special launch version.

Trailhawk version remains the most focused on off-road use.

Access to the Compass range is via the Sport equipment level, which features 16” wheels, 8.4” infotainment system, Full LED headlamps and rear parking sensors.

The 10.25” digital instrument panel and the new 10.1” center screen come as standard from the Limited equipment level, which also adds 18” wheels and parking sensors (front and rear) with automatic parking function.

Trailhawk version has specific suspension, greater ground clearance and superior off-road angles.

As always, the Trailhawk tier serves to identify the Compass's most “bad paths” proposition, offering higher off-road angles, greater ground clearance, revised suspension and a traction control system with five modes, including “Rock”, specific to this version.

80th Anniversary Special Series

The Jeep Compass's commercial debut in Europe will be with the special 80th Anniversary series, a commemorative edition that stands out for its 18” gray wheels and exclusive emblems.
