Need help. I want to buy an old car. But first let me explain the context of my impasse…
As you know, I spend my life changing my car. My 2003 Renault Mégane Break 1.5 dCi — which you can find out more about in this article — is almost always parked in the press parks. Reason Automobile's test cars occupied me all week.
Result? My car is almost always stopped. And that opened up a possibility for me… I don't need a practical car. By the way, I don't even need a car. I can have a car on a mere whim. That doesn't need to be practical. That doesn't need to be spared. That doesn't need to be particularly comfortable.
In short, you do not need to comply with practically any of the assumptions that normally guide the purchase of a car.
Could it be a stupid impulse purchase? Of course…
As for me, there is something profoundly satisfying about buying things we don't really miss. Do not agree? In my case, I still cry today about the lost opportunity to buy a Michelin vintage placard at a classics fair. It cost 400 euros, it didn't work but… it was beautiful.
Well, that's why I need your help to make bad decisions. The questions are as follows:
- What car do I buy? Budget: 4,500 euros. You can stretch out a little more…
- See Megane or stay with her?
Leave me your suggestions in the comments box.
I have done my part. I've wasted time burning time on classifieds sites. For now I'm inclined to buy a Mercedes 190 D, or a Citroen AX GT, or a second-hand parachute. I don't know… help me!
If the hours I spend on classifieds sites had academic equivalence, I was already a full professor.
By chance, I've even written about this addiction to walking on classifieds sites: How to spoil productivity? Open an auto classifieds website.
Until I make up my mind, I've been trying to convince our photographer, Thom V. Esveld, to sell me his Mercedes-Benz 190 D — images of his car accompany this article. But we still haven't agreed on the price.
It is in good condition, has air conditioning, manual windows, electric sunroof and five speeds. Sound like a good deal?
