It was 1985 when everything happened. It was the year that the Mercedes-Benz W123 was replaced by the then revolutionary W124, both predecessors of the current E-Class.
As you know, the W123 it is a car that even today makes the hearts of the most homesick taxi drivers sigh. A love relationship based on the durability, comfort and reliability of the components that make up this mythical car. I venture to say that if W123 had left a few decades earlier, the Germans wouldn't even have needed tanks to try and win the war against the Allies.
It was because of these premises of infinite durability and bulletproof comfort that a German taxi driver barely knew that Mercedes-Benz was going to replace the W123 model with the W124, he ran to a brand dealership and bought a W123 just like the one he already had.
The plan was to replace the first with the second when the first was old and worn out. I was afraid that the "ultra-modern" Mercedes-Benz W124 would be a wreck of trouble. Then a decade passed, two decades, three decades and the first W123 never ended. All you had to do was put in fuel, oil and “foot in the can”. The taxi driver ended up retiring earlier than the W123…
