The Porsche 911 GT3 has already been to the Nürburgring and has not disappointed

One of the most anticipated versions of the 992 generation Porsche 911, the new Porsche 911 GT3 has increasingly become a fixture on the Nürburgring. So, after the brand's test driver, Lars Kern, needed only 6min59.927s to complete a complete lap of 20.8 km, it was our Sport Auto colleagues' turn to take the 911 GT3 there.

The task of driving the Porsche 911 GT3 on the famous German circuit was entrusted to journalist/driver Christian Gebhardt and, as expected, the time taken turned out to be higher than that advertised by Porsche. However, the fact that he managed to cover the circuit in just 7min04.74s advances a lot about the potential of this Porsche.

After all, let's not forget that the Porsche 911 GT3 remains a road car despite its narrow focus on performance and seeing someone (albeit a proven one) spend “only” five seconds more than the driver of The brand's official tests attest to the work done by the Stuttgart engineers.

Faster than advertised?

It's not just ridiculously fast on the Nürburgring. The new 911 GT3 is also proving to be very fast, even faster than the official numbers, in performance tests carried out by the media. The 4.0 l six-cylinder boxer — it's exactly the same engine as the also new 911 GT3 Cup — has 510 hp and is capable of officially delivering 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4s.

However, a video from YouTube channel Carwow seems to confirm that the German brand is being somewhat restrained in the announced numbers.

With the tires far from the ideal temperature, it was possible to fulfill the traditional 0 to 96 km/h (the 0 to 60 mph) in 3.11s. Already with active traction control, the hottest tires (and maybe a little more practice), our well-known Mat Watson fulfilled the traditional “test” in just 2.87s!
