Hyundai NEXO (hydrogen) reaches 1000 units sold in Europe

The NEXO, Hyundai's hydrogen fuel cell electric car, has just surpassed the barrier of 1000 units sold in Europe since the beginning of its production in 2018.

With a range of up to 666 km (WLTP) and a refueling time of less than five minutes, NEXO is the ultimate example of Hyundai's commitment to hydrogen.

And to understand the success that this car has had, nothing better than recovering the video where Guilherme Costa took over the “commands” of NEXO and told everything there is to know about this electric SUV powered by hydrogen fuel cells. You can see it (or review it) below:

It should be remembered that the South Korean brand recently formalized its desire to popularize hydrogen by 2040 and to start mass production of fuel cell electric cars, the so-called FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle).

Hyundai believes that the price of an FCEV will become similar to that of a battery-powered electric (BEV) by 2030 and wants to lead this offensive — based on hydrogen — in the passenger car segment with a new hybrid sports car, anticipated by Vision FK.

In addition, Hyundai is already currently developing its third generation Fuel Cell system, which will succeed the system we found on NEXO.

But in the meantime, Hyundai's bet on hydrogen is based on this SUV — which succeeded the ix35 Fuel Cell, launched in 2013 — and the XCIENT Fuel Cell, the world's first mass-produced fuel cell truck that is already being used in Switzerland (it reaches other European markets in 2022).

In July of this year, the XCIENT Fuel Cell fleet consisted of nearly 50 trucks, and those in operation have already covered more than 1.5 million kilometers in total. Each unit is equipped with two 90 kW Fuel Cell systems and has a total autonomy of over 500 km.

In addition, Hyundai has confirmed that all of its commercial vehicles from 2028 will have a fuel cell version, which is just another sign of the South Korean brand's commitment to this type of technology.
