Kia accelerates electrification. It will launch seven electric models by 2027

Betting on becoming a reference in the offer of electric models, Kia is getting ready to come up with an authentic “offensive” of electrification and the result is the arrival of several Kia electric models in the coming years.

But let's start by introducing you to the ambitious plans of the South Korean brand. For starters, Kia plans to expand its range of electric models to 11 by 2025.

According to the same plans, in the period between 2020 and 2025, Kia's electric models should represent 20% of the brand's total sales in South Korea, North America and Europe.

Kia's plans for electrification are already underway and the first fruits will emerge as early as 2021.

But there is more. By 2027 Kia plans to launch not one, not two or even three but seven (!) new electric models in various segments. Common to all of them will be the fact that they are developed on the basis of a new dedicated platform: the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

If you're currently wondering why so many electric Kia models are launched, the answer is simple: the South Korean brand predicts that electric cars will account for 25% of its global sales by 2029.

The first arrives in 2021

According to Kia, we won't have to wait long for the first electrical model developed based on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). Speaking of the E-GMP, according to Kia this will allow the South Korean brand to offer models with the most spacious interiors in their respective classes.

Like CV code name , this arrives as early as 2021 and, according to the South Korean brand, reveals Kia's new design orientation. Apparently, this model should be based on the prototype “Imagine by Kia” that the South Korean brand unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show last year.

As for the remaining models that should use this platform, Kia has not yet announced any release dates.

The "Plan S"

Unveiled in January, “Plan S” is Kia's medium-long-term strategy and reveals how the brand plans to transition to electrification.

So, in addition to new models, Kia is exploring the creation of subscription services. The objective is to offer customers several purchase options, rental and leasing programs for electric batteries.

Another of the areas covered by the “Plan S” are the businesses related to the “second life” of batteries (their recycling). At the same time, Kia plans to strengthen its aftermarket infrastructure for electric models and help expand its charging infrastructure.

For this reason, the South Korean brand will deploy more than 2400 chargers in Europe in partnership with its dealers. At the same time, this commitment to charging stations translated into an investment in September 2019 in IONITY.
