Hyundai Bayon. A "little brother" is coming to Kauai

Anonim

Hyundai's SUV/Crossover range is set to grow and the Hyundai Bayon should be your most recent member.

Most likely based on the platform of the new Hyundai i20, Bayon sees its name inspired by the French town of Bayonne (located between the Atlantic and the Pyrenees) and will be, according to the South Korean brand, a product focused essentially on the European market.

Scheduled for launch in the first half of 2021, Bayon will position itself below Kauai in Hyundai's range, serving as an entry-level model for an SUV/Crossover range that in Europe also features Tucson, Santa Fe and Nexus.

Newly renovated, Kauai will welcome in 2021 a “younger brother”.

By launching a new B-segment model as the foundation of our SUV range, we see a great opportunity to respond even better to European customer demand.

What to expect from Bayon?

For now, Hyundai has not revealed any more information or any more image of Bayon other than the teaser we showed you. Still, given your platform there are some things that seem right.

The first has to do with the mechanics that the Hyundai Bayon will have to use. Since it will share the platform with the i20 it should also share the same engines.

This means that the Hyundai Bayon will probably have the services of the 1.2 MPi with 84 hp and five-speed manual transmission and the 1.0 T-GDi with 100 hp or 120 hp which is associated with a 48 V mild-hybrid system (standard on the more powerful version, optionally on the less powerful) and which is coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission or an intelligent six-speed manual (iMT) transmission. speeds.

Second, it is very unlikely that there will be a 100% electric version of the Bayon — it is also not planned, at the moment, for the new i20 — with that space being filled, in part, by Kauai Electric, and that will be complemented with the new IONIQ 5 (arrives in 2021).

Finally, it remains to be seen what will be the fate of the Active variant that the i20 had in the generation that now ceases to function. Will Bayon take its place, or will we see Hyundai do as the Ford that markets the Fiesta Active, even having in the same segment the Puma and the EcoSport?
