We drive the new Aston Martin Vantage. Better than the Porsche 911?

Anonim

Clearly inspired by the Aston Martin DB10 used by secret agent James Bond in the Specter movie, no one is indifferent to the passing of the new Aston Martin Vantage . Whether in Portugal or California (USA) — where we had the opportunity to test it at the World Car Awards 2019 — the English model has an impressive presence.

What's more, he's decidedly more aggressive and muscular than ever. With the front glued to the ground and the rear more raised, all the aerodynamic elements look perfectly framed.

But enough talking. Do you want to know how he behaves? Watch the video:

Aston Martin Vantage. 911 killer?

After about 200 km at very… interesting paces, I confess that I was impressed with the evolution of the Aston Martin Vantage. I had already led the previous generation, and in the face of that, the difference is abysmal. In all. Engine response, feedback, attention to detail… everything!

Is it enough to disturb the unavoidable reference in the sports world: the Porsche 911? The answer is yes. Enough to disturb, but not enough to overcome. And let's not forget that the 992 generation will raise the bar even higher…

Still, with a 50/50 weight distribution, great suspension/chassis tuning and a 4.0 l twin-turbo V8 engine with 510 horsepower of Mercedes-AMG origin, the Aston Martin Vantage doesn't lack arguments.

And if we let go of numbers and embrace emotional issues... just look at this design:

It's just a pity that the simplicity and purity of the bodywork's lines doesn't extend to the interior. The salad of buttons found inside, in addition to being unsightly, complicates the use of all systems.

As for the quality of materials and assembly, nothing to point out.

So it's worth going to the gas stations

I didn't talk about the consumptions, and as a matter of fact, I don't know what consumptions I got during this test. But they certainly exceed 20 l/100km.

In the short journey I took on the highway, I reached averages around 10 l/100km . The test was too short to determine consumption… but that's for sure!

As you can see from the highlighted image, topping up a car in the United States of America is much less painful.
