Another Ford electric from Volkswagen's MEB? It seems so

Produced in Cologne, Germany, and expected to arrive in 2023, the Ford model based on Volkswagen's MEB platform may have a “brother”.

According to a source quoted by Automotive News Europe, Ford and Volkswagen are in talks. The goal? The North American brand turned to MEB to create a second electric model for the European market.

Although the Volkswagen Group declined to comment on this rumour, Ford Europe said in a statement: “As we said earlier, there is a possibility that a second electric vehicle based on the MEB platform will be built in Cologne, and this is still under consideration.” .

In addition to the Volkswagen Group brands, MEB is preparing to “help” to electrify Ford.

If the second model of Ford based on MEB is confirmed, this will reinforce the strong commitment of the North American brand in the electrification of its range in Europe.

If you remember, Ford's objective is to guarantee that from 2030 onwards its entire range of passenger vehicles in Europe is exclusively electric. Before that, in mid-2026, that same range will already have zero emissions capability — whether through electric or plug-in hybrid models.

Now, if there is an alliance/partnership that has helped Ford to accelerate this bet on electrification, this is the one achieved with Volkswagen. Initially focused on commercial vehicles, this alliance has since been extended to electric models and autonomous driving technology, all with one objective: to reduce costs.
