Heresy. The first ever produced Chevrolet Corvette C8 will ever be driven

As well as the first examples of the Toyota GR Supra and Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, also the first Chevrolet Corvette C8 was auctioned off by Barrett-Jackson.

In total, the first copy of the Chevrolet Corvette C8 sold for three million dollars (about 2.72 million euros). As has been customary in these auctions of first Barret-Jackson units, the proceeds from the sale of the Corvette C8 were donated to a charity.

But if so far everything about the sale of the first Corvette C8 seems "normal", the same cannot be said about the statements made by Rick Hendrick, CEO of the Hendrick Automotive Group who bought this historic example — it is the first production Corvette with an engine in rear center position.

In an interview given to the Detroit Free Press, Hendrick stated that he does not intend to drive the car. Instead, he's going to put it on display at Hendrick's Heritage Center, a space located at his company's headquarters and in which Hendrick houses more than 120 other Corvettes, some of them also first production specimens.

The Corvette C8 that was present at the auction is a pre-production unit.

2020 production has already sold out

Although the first units of the Chevrolet Corvette C8 have not even started to be produced (let alone delivered to their owners) — the start of production was delayed due to a union strike at several GM plants in the US that took place in October of last year — the North American brand announced that the 2020 production of the Corvette C8 is sold out.

What does this mean? Simple, it means that all 40,000 Corvette C8s that Chevrolet plans to produce have already been sold even before they even rolled off the production line. Not bad, after all we are talking about a high-performance bi-seater.
