Porsche has expanded its competition model offering with the introduction of the Cayman GT4 Clubsport. Model that will make its world debut today at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Like its series-production brother, the Cayman GT4 Clubsport features the centrally placed 3.8-litre flat-six engine. To meet the needs of a competition car, this model has an improved version of the PDK dual-clutch gearbox, with paddles on the steering wheel, as well as a competition-specific mechanical locking differential on the rear axle.

The lightweight front suspension assembly is inherited from its older brother, the 911 GT3 Cup, which takes part in 20 Porsche single-brand championships around the world. An improved and very light suspension system was used on the rear axle, with crossarms that also inherit from the 911 GT3 Cup.

The impressive competition brake system comprises four 380mm diameter steel discs. The front brakes use six-piston aluminum calipers constructed in one piece while the rear axle incorporates similar but four-piston calipers. ABS can be calibrated in twelve different modes. The Electronic Stability Program has been adjusted for the use of slick tires. Power steering is electromechanical.

Weighing just 1,300 kilos, the Cayman GT4 Clubsport is very light and will be delivered from the factory with welded safety arches, a competition bacquet and six-point belts. The base version is equipped with a 90 liter fuel tank, but there is the option of FT3 safety tanks with 70 or 100 liters. The forged wheels are 18-inch with five studs, on which Michelin tires of different dimensions are mounted on each axle: 25/64-18 on the front axle and 27/68-18 on the rear axle.

The new Cayman GT4 Clubsport will cost €111,000 plus country-specific taxes and is now available from Porsche Motorsport in Weissach. In 2016 it is expected to be homologated for competitions such as the Nürburgring VLN Endurance Championship, the “SRO GT4 series“, the European Trofeo Pirelli GT3, the Ultra 94 GT3 Cup Challenge in Canada and for the club races organized by the Porsche Club of America, as well as for other club-level events around the world.
