With an official presentation scheduled for the New York Motor Show, official images of the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible begin to appear, an authentic “monster” with more than 625 hp of “hair in the wind”.
After the latest generation of the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was presented at the Detroit Motor Show, the first official images of what will almost certainly be one of the most «radical» convertible cars of today are starting to appear.
With minimal changes to the interior, the main differences to the coupé version can be seen on the outside, such as the absence of a rigid roof replaced by a canvas hood. Outside, there are also the same aerodynamic appendages present in the Coupé version.
Thanks to its strong aluminum structure, the new convertible «bolide» of the American brand did not need any structural reinforcements, making the difference in weight between the Coupé version and the Convertible version to be minimal.
In order to guarantee higher levels of performance and visual «aggressiveness», the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible can be equipped with the optional Z07 «pack». A pack that adds a huge carbon front diffuser, a larger spoiler, more grip tires (Michelin Pilot Sport Cup) and carbon-ceramic brakes that are substantially lighter than the standard brakes. With the Z07 pack installed in the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible, GM was able to measure the highest levels of downforce ever recorded in its wind tunnel.
Tadge Juechter, Chief Engineer responsible for the Chevrolet Corvette, even says that “five years ago this level of dynamic performance and structural rigidity would have been impossible. Something the brand has only achieved thanks to the use of the latest technologies, in the design phase and in the handling of materials”.
