The mid-engined German sports coupe complements the 718 range as an entry-level model.

After the 718 Boxster, Porsche introduced the fourth generation of the 718 Cayman, the revamped mid-engine coupé that now has a sharper, sportier and more efficient look.

Like the 718 Boxster, the 718 Cayman adopts a supercharged four-cylinder opposing engine. In the entry-level version (two liter block), the German model has 300 hp of power and 380 Nm of torque, available between 1950 and 4,500 rpm. In the S version (2.5 liter block with turbo with variable geometry – VTG – also used in the 911 Turbo) the Porsche 718 Cayman reaches 350 hp and 420 Nm between 1900 and 4,500 rpm.

As for performance, the 718 Cayman with PDK gearbox and the optional Sport Chrono Package accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, while the 718 Cayman S completes the same exercise in just 4.2 seconds. In the entry version the maximum speed is 275 km/h; the most powerful version reaches 285 km/h.

In dynamic terms, the new models follow in the footsteps of the classic Porsche 718, and as such feature a renewed chassis that emphasizes torsional rigidity and wheel guidance. The damper tuning has been revised, the steering setup is 10% more direct, and the springs and stabilizer bars are also designed to be firmer. In addition, the slightly wider rear wheels – together with tires specifically developed for the new 718 Cayman model – result in a potential increase in lateral forces and greater stability in corners.

In terms of driving modes, in addition to the already existing “Normal”, “Sport” and “Sport Plus” modes, it is possible to opt for the “Individual” program, which allows for personalized adjustment of the different systems available. The Sport Chrono Package is adjusted via the rotary command placed on the steering wheel.

On the outside, the brand from Stuttgart bet on a more muscular appearance of marked proportions. At the front, larger air intakes and bi-xenon headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights stand out, while at the rear the highlight goes to the high-gloss black stripe with the Porsche logo integrated between the rear lights.

Inside the cabin, like the 718 Boxster, we can count on new ventilation outlets and a sports steering wheel inspired by the 918 Spyder. In terms of connectivity options, the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system is available as standard, whose Connect module includes special options for smartphones such as USB ports, Apple CarPlay and Porsche Car Connect.

The launch of the German sports car is scheduled for September 24, with prices starting at €63,291 for the Porsche 718 Cayman and €81,439 for the 718 Cayman S.
