BMW Concept i4. It's not the BMW i4 electric yet, but it's close by.

Like many other brands, BMW was not shaken by the cancellation of the Geneva Motor Show and decided to keep its launch schedule, even though there was no show. Therefore, and as planned, today it decided to reveal the BMW Concept i4.

According to BMW, the new prototype anticipates much of the BMW i4 that arrives next year and the truth is that, if we take out the typical “excesses” of concept cars, the BMW Concept i4 already looks quite close to a production model.

By the way, BMW claims that many of the aesthetic details present in the prototype will be used not only by the i4 but also by BMW's electric futures. What details are these? Get to know them in the next few lines.

The outside…

Starting from the outside, it's impossible not to notice the huge “double kidney”, a solution that looks like it won't be limited only to BMWs with combustion engines.

However, while on models with combustion engines the double kidney grille assumes cooling functions, on the Concept i4 (and most likely on the i4) it is closed — due to aerodynamics — housing a series of sensors instead.

Also on the outside, the wheels are specially designed to reduce aerodynamic resistance, the various details in blue (already a constant in the BMW i, the brand's electrified models like the i3 or i8) and the rear diffuser.

… and the interior of the Concept i4

With regard to the interior of the BMW Concept i4, the German brand's bet was on simplicity and minimalism,

The biggest highlight has to be the huge curved panel (unsurprisingly called the “Curved Display”), which at the same time doubles as the instrument panel and the infotainment system screen.

According to BMW, the “Curved Display” will be used not only on the i4, but also on the production version of the iNEXT (which, oddly enough, had already revealed it in a teaser), and it already has the latest generation of the infotainment system from BMW .

To help eliminate physical commands, the “Curved Display” now integrates several, including the air conditioning. Finally, another of the highlights of this curved panel are the “Experience Modes” (“Core”, “Sport” and “Efficient”) that influence everything from the information present on the screens to the ambient lighting.

BMW Concept i4 numbers

Interestingly, contrary to what is often usual, BMW has already revealed several technical data of the new i4, data that obviously apply to the Concept i4.

Equipped with the fifth generation of the eDrive system from BMW, the Concept i4 delivers a maximum power of 530 hp (390 kW). Powering the electric motor is a battery with about 80 kWh of capacity which, according to the German brand, weighs “only” 550 kg.
