BMW X5 M "caught up" in testing anticipates update

The current generation of BMW X5 (G05) was released in 2018, so we're starting to get into that ideal time frame for the typical mid-range upgrade of a model's commercial career. This is what we can see, exclusively nationally, in these spy photos that “caught” an X5 M during its winter tests.

Contrary to what is usual, this test prototype does not appear camouflaged, not detecting any external changes in this X5 M compared to the current one, with the exception of the headlights and the color of the front and rear bumpers, which differ from the rest of the bodywork.

However, it is expected that the X5 will reveal some external differences when it comes time to show it to the world, namely in terms of bumpers and optics. As a general rule (there are exceptions), BMW does not make substantial external changes to these updates — referred to by BMW as Life Cycle Impulse or LCI.

So, as with the BMW 3 Series “caught up” a few weeks ago, the raison d'être of this test X5 M should lie in its interior, of which we have a glimpse.

Everything points to the updated X5 to incorporate a curved screen (effectively, two screens) as we saw in the BMW iX, a solution that should “invade”, progressively, the interior of many more models of the Bavarian brand.

For the rest, little or nothing is known about what more news the updated X5 — which should be immediately followed by the technically identical X6 — might bring when we meet it in 2022.
