Renault lets see the first details of the new crossover Mégane E-Tech Electric

During the Renault Talk #1, a digital press conference at which Luca de Meo (CEO of the Renault Group) and several responsible for the brand set out their vision for the brand under the guise of the Renaulution plan, the first teasers of the future were released Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric.

Going back a little in time, in October of last year we got to know the Mégane eVision, a prototype of a 100% electric crossover that anticipated a production model and which we will discover at the end of this year (2021), which will start to be sold in 2022. Now we have a name: Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric.

An image of the exterior, in which we can see the rear, and two more of the interior, presented by Gilles Vidal, the Renault brand design director, was released, along with the new brand logo that the new model also integrates.

In the rear image, it is possible to see the model identification and also the rear optics where the inspiration for the Mégane eVision prototype is clear, with a LED strip running the entire width of the rear, only interrupted by the brand's new logo. You can see that, as happens, for example, with the Clio, it will have a pronounced rear shoulders.

The interior images allow you to see part of the infotainment system's vertical screen, with a row of buttons at its base and below these a space for the smartphone. We also see the passenger ventilation outlets and part of the center console, with several storage spaces and an armrest with contrasting yellow stitching.

Also noteworthy is the structured look of the interior, with well-defined, precise lines, with thin LED strips (in yellow) for ambient lighting.

In the second image we partially see the new digital instrument panel, being separated from the infotainment system screen by what appears to be, we assume, the location for the typical Renault card key.

Gilles Vidal highlights a future for Renault's interiors with high-tech systems and state-of-the-art screens, more space for occupants and more storage compartments, and, in terms of appearance, new lines, spaces and materials to embrace this new chapter electrified in the history of Renault.

only electric

What we already know about the future Mégane E-Tech Electric, as the name implies, is that it will be electric. It will be the first Renault to be based on the Alliance's new specific platform for electrics, the CMF-EV, which we have seen appear earlier on the Nissan Ariya, so this new model will not have any other engine than 100% electric.

As we've seen in other trams with specific platforms, and even foreseeing compact dimensions — it should be shorter than the current combustion-powered Mégane, but will have a longer wheelbase —, it promises internal dimensions worthy of the segment above, equivalent to the largest Talisman . The big difference will be in the total height, which should be above 1.5 m, giving it the epithet of crossover.

When we met the Mégane eVision prototype, Renault promised 450 km of autonomy for the ultra-thin battery (11 cm high) of 60 kWh, but Luca de Meo, at the time, said there was potential for versions with even more autonomy.

The prototype was equipped with a front engine (front wheel drive) with 218 hp and 300 Nm, translating in less than 8.0s in the 0-100 km/h for a mass of 1650 kg — it remains to be seen if the new Mégane E -Tech Electric will also have numbers equivalent to this to accompany it.
