Appearances are deceiving and proving it is the Bugatti La Voiture Noire we met two years ago at the Geneva Motor Show.
Presented at the Swiss event as the most expensive car ever, the example about which we even have a video on YouTube was nothing more than a prototype.
Although its shapes are identical to those of the only ever produced example of the La Voiture Noire, the car that visitors to the Geneva Motor Show could see featured only a small electric motor instead of the 1500 hp 8.0 W16 quad-turbo. that the final model shares with Chiron.
A (long) process
Thus, before being ready to be handed over to its owner incognito, the Bugatti La Voiture Noire had to go through a lengthy testing process identical to that to which other proposals for the Molsheim brand are submitted.
First, all new components have been meticulously tested, having to pass through a rigorous quality control. After all, it is, according to Bugatti, the most expensive (new) car in history.
After this phase, La Voiture Noire was again tested in simulators, wind tunnels and on track. About this entire process, Pierre Rommelfanger, Head of Coachbuilding Projects at Bugatti, explained: “Although La Voiture Noire is a unique model, we spent two years using a test prototype to develop and test it in areas such as dynamic behavior and the security so that it could be approved”.
Now, two years after its revelation and after a long period of gestation, the only copy of the Bugatti La Voiture Noire is ready to be delivered to its owner. It only remains to be seen if we will ever meet the lucky man who bought the most expensive new car ever: 11 million euros before taxes.
