Jaguar XJ. End of production in July, but successor only for the year

Anonim

It is without a doubt a veteran in the market. The current Jaguar XJ (X351) was released in July 2009, and its 10th anniversary will also be its last, with production ending next July 5th in Castle Bromwich — more than 120,000 XJ rolled off the production line.

His career was initially marked by the “shock” of his appearance, when compared to the classic predecessor, and even today he proves to be divisive, especially when viewed from the rear — the 2015 review was quite shy, keeping the most controversial elements, namely the D-pillar and the rear optics.

However, despite being one of the oldest models on sale in the market — older, maybe just the Fiat 500 —, it leaves the scene without leaving a successor. However, that does not mean that Jaguar will no longer have a top of the range worthy of the name.

Jaguar XJ

Jaguar... silent

According to the latest rumors, the ninth generation Jaguar XJ — the first appeared in 1968 — will not appear until next year in 2020 (possible presentation in 2019?)

And just as the X351 was a radical break with its predecessor, so the future XJ will be in relation to the current one. Not just in terms of its aesthetics, but more importantly, in terms of what's hidden under its bodywork.

Forget V8s or six-cylinder engines, everything points to the next Jaguar XJ becoming 100% electric — too bold a step? Maybe, but daring or even innovation aren't alien terms when it comes to the XJ.

The first Jaguar XJ was a milestone in car design, the X350 generation (2003-2009) innovated in the field of materials, having been the first Jaguar built entirely in aluminum — a technology different from that which Audi used in the A8 — and the current X351 , thanks to its radical design, took the name XJ in a new direction, freeing itself from the shackles of the past.

At the moment, little or nothing is known about this electric reinvention of the XJ, but considering what “little” Jaguar has achieved with the I-Pace, the multi-award winning 100% electric SUV — International Car of the Year, World Car of the Year, among others… — expectations are high for the new top of the range.

Until then, and after production ends on the Jaguar XJ in July, we will have to… wait.
