MINI already develops a 100% electric John Cooper Works

To put an end to all the rumors circulating around the online world, MINI itself published a series of official “spy photos” of an unprecedented 100% electric John Cooper Works, thus confirming the development of the first MINI Electric JCW.

The images show a development prototype, camouflaged, in tests on the German Nürburgring circuit.

However, despite being camouflaged, the prototype images already show a lot, showing the same bodywork as the MINI JCW GP, the most extreme of the MINI. Take a look at the wheel arches or the rear wing, with the differences between this JCW GP and the one we already know, being in the covered front grille and in the absence of exhaust outlets, confirming its electrical nature.

Unfortunately, at the moment, nothing more is known about the final specifications of this model, which may, it seems, not lead to a production model immediately. This is what we take from the words of Bernd Körber, brand director:

“With MINI Electric, we've shown how the brand's signature driving pleasure and electric mobility can be so well combined. Now is the time to translate the John Cooper Works brand's passion for performance into electric mobility. to develop concepts for electric John Cooper Works models".

In other words, this development prototype may only be serving as a "test mule", not least because in the official statement it is MINI who says that "future architectures (under development) mean that extreme performance and genuine driving pleasure will be also available with electric motors as they are already with combustion engines”.

Will we see this camouflaged prototype unveiled as a demonstrator for the John Cooper Works electric models it will offer in the future? Who knows…

What we do know is that it will significantly raise the level of performance already known for the Cooper SE, the first 100% electric MINI. Remember that this offers 184 hp of power and needs 7.3s to reach 100 km/h. And we also didn't forget the 230 km of autonomy, a somewhat modest value compared to other compact trams. With the focus on the performance of this electric MINI JCW, how will it affect autonomy?
