According to the Online Fuel Price website of the Directorate General for Energy and Geology, there are already more than 380 service stations in Portugal selling 98 gasoline for one value equal to or greater than two euros for each liter of fuel . There are already nine stations that have surpassed the barrier of two euros per liter.

The gas station with the most expensive fuel in the country — at the time this news was published — is located in Baião, district of Porto. It is selling a liter of gasoline 98 for 2.10 euros. Simple 95 gasoline is also reaching historic records, as it is already being sold at over €1.85/liter in 19 service stations in our country.

Since the beginning of the year, diesel has risen 38 times (down eight). Gasoline has already increased 30 times since January (down seven times).

It should be remembered that the price of diesel and gasoline increased significantly for the second consecutive week: diesel rose, on average, by 3.5 cents per liter; gasoline increased by an average of 2.5 cents.

But despite record fuel prices, the State Budget proposal does not provide for changes in the tax burden on fuels, with the Government not proposing any change to the Tax on Petroleum Products (ISP).

Thanks to this tax, António Costa's executive is even counting to increase revenue by 3% in 2022, raising another 98 million euros next year.

Like the ISP, the surcharge on the Petroleum Products Tax (ISP) rate for gasoline and diesel will also remain in force in 2022.

It is recalled that the Government introduced this additional fee in 2016, announced as temporary, to face oil prices, which at the time reached historically low levels (however, they rose again…), to recover the revenue that was being lost in VAT.

The State Budget proposal foresees the continuation of the “additional to the tax rates on petroleum and energy products, in the amount of 0.007 euros per liter for gasoline and in the amount of 0.0035 euros per liter for diesel and for diesel the colored and marked diesel”.
