Cold Start. Lamborghini Countach by the voice of its creator, Gandini

The Miura is considered the first supercar, but it was the Lamborghini Countach , unveiled as a prototype in 1971, the supercar that defined the rest of the “species” — is the true archetype of the contemporary supercar.

Its architecture (engine in central rear longitudinal position) is still the most used in any super or hypercar today; its proportions are still the starting point for any new Lamborghini supercar; and the spectacular scissor-opening doors, one of Lamborghini's hallmarks, were introduced by the Countach.

Also its futuristic design is, perhaps, the purest expression of the wedge shape (at least at the beginning) in a production car and no wonder.

Countach (and Miura and Diablo) designer Marcello Gandini was also one of the pioneers to explore this new path in car design, with the Alfa Romeo Carabo in 1968 (the concept that would most influence the Countach) and the “wedge of wedges”, the fantastic Lancia Stratos Zero in 1970.

In this celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Lamborghini Countach (unveiled as a prototype at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show), the Italian brand visited Marcello Gandini to talk about its most iconic creation of all — a video not to be missed.
