It's official: there will be no Geneva Motor Show in 2022

The organization of the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) has just confirmed, in a statement, that the 2022 edition of the event will not take place.

After two years without taking place, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic that affected (and stopped) the whole world, the Swiss event is not “opening doors” again.

Expectations were high, especially after the Munich Motor Show last September. But now, the Standing Committee of this hall, which organizes the event, has announced the decision to postpone the event to 2023.

“We pushed a lot and tried everything to reactivate the Geneva International Motor Show in 2022”, says Maurice Turrettini, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Geneva International Motor Show.

Despite all our efforts, we have to face the reality: the pandemic situation is not under control and presents a great threat for a big event like the GIMS. But we see this decision as a postponement rather than a cancellation. I am confident that the salon […] will come back stronger than ever in 2023.

Sandro Mesquita, executive director of the Geneva International Motor Show, said: “Many exhibitors indicated that the uncertainties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic make it impossible for them to make a firm commitment to GIMS 2022. the current shortage of semiconductors has on the automakers.”

In these uncertain times, many brands are therefore unable to commit to participating in an event that would take place just over four months from now. When considering all the factors, it became clear that it was necessary to postpone the program and announce the news sooner or later to avoid short-term cancellation.
