After the Covid-19 pandemic forced the 2020 edition of the Geneva Motor Show to be cancelled, the Foundation of the Geneva International Motor Show (FGIMS), responsible for organizing the event, announced that the 2021 edition will not be held either. .

As you know, the cancellation of this year's edition of the biggest motor show in the world has left FGIMS' finances “in the red” and, since then, the organizers of the Geneva Motor Show had been looking for solutions to secure the 2021 edition.

the loan that never arrived

At one point, the possibility of a loan from the State of Geneva in the amount of 16.8 million Swiss francs (about 15.7 million euros) was “on the table”.

Among the conditions for this loan were the payment of 1 million Swiss francs (about 935,000 euros) by June 2021 and the obligation for the event to take place in 2021.

Given the uncertainty that it will be possible to organize an event like the Geneva Motor Show next year and after several brands have stated that they should not participate in a 2021 edition of the event, preferring that it take place in 2022, FGIMS decided not to accept the loan.

And now?

Now, in addition to canceling the 2021 edition of the Geneva Motor Show, FGIMS has decided to sell the event and the rights for its organization to Palexpo SA.

The purpose of this sale is to ensure the regular organization of a motor show in Geneva.
