The Civic has been updated to 2020, so you'd expect the Honda Civic Type R 2020 was so too. And, as we have already revealed on a previous occasion, the Japanese brand did not stop at updating its hot hatch reference, as it added two new versions, which should have been publicly unveiled in Geneva, which, as you know, was cancelled.

If a Civic Type R upsets a lot of people… three upsets a lot more. In addition to the well-known GT, we now have the Sport Line and the Limited Edition.

If the first responds to the wishes of those who thought the style of the Civic Type R was simply “too much”, the second, as the name implies, is a limited edition — only 100 copies for Europe —, lighter and more focused, ready recovering all the records that the Renault Mégane RS Trophy-R took from him. Meet them in more detail in another video:

In short, the new Civic Type R saw the engine's cooling system (engine without changes) being increased, the chassis revised with new syn-blocks, the brake discs are now bi-material (steel and aluminium).

Inside there's a new Alcantara-coated steering wheel and the gearshift knob takes the form of a teardrop and includes a 90g counterweight that improves, says Honda, the precision and feel during its action. More ambiguous is Honda's decision to add synthesized sounds to the engine's sound (criticized for being somewhat mute).

The new Honda Civic Type R Sport Line it stands out for not having a substantial rear wing and for its more discreet decoration. It is also better soundproofed than the GT, which should contribute to a more comfortable daily life.

At the opposite end the Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition , more focused in order to increase your performance in circuit. It's 47 kg lighter — goodbye to the infotainment system, air conditioning, and some of the soundproofing material — but unlike what we saw on the Mégane RS Trophy-R, the rear seats stay where they should be.

Dynamically, the shock absorbers have been modified, the steering has been revised, and Michelin Cup 2 shoes appear on exclusive 20-inch BBS forged wheels. Will it be enough to recover the record in “green hell”? We may have the answer shortly.

Prices for them all? Values have not yet been officially advanced…
