Hyundai Portugal today presented the latest version of its utility SUV, the new Hyundai Kauai . A model that is currently one of the most popular models of the South Korean brand in Europe.
In fact, more than a brand new model, it is an update of the Hyundai Kauai launched in 2017.
Among the main innovations, several improvements stand out, from the design to the new range of engines, which now includes mild-hybrid 48 V technology in the Diesel engine. Know the main highlights in this article.
Improvements inside and out
In terms of connectivity and convenience features, there are also updates, starting with the inclusion of Hyundai Bluelink technology — which allows you to receive updates and pair smartphones via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay — and an improved Hyundai SmartSense security package, which provides the new Kauai automatic emergency braking on all versions.

But the news does not stop there. Like the rest of the Hyundai range, the new Hyundai Kauai 2021 also adopted a 100% digital quadrant (in all versions) as well as a new 8″ or 10.25” infotainment system.
More efficient engines
According to Hyundai Portugal, more than 70% of sales of the Kauai range in Portugal are the responsibility of the 1.0 T-GDI engine with 120 hp. An engine that remains in this renewed generation, with some improvements.
In addition to the 1.0 T-GDI engine, the new Hyundai Kauai has three more engines available. We highlight the 1.6 CRDi engine with a power of 136 hp, now associated with a mild-hybrid 48 V system, being available with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic or six-speed manual transmission.
Prices of the new Hyundai Kauai in Portugal
Launched in 2017, Kauai has been a success story for Hyundai in Europe, with more than 228,000 units sold. In Portugal, Kauai has also been successful, with more than 5800 units sold in our country.
To keep domestic customers interested, the new Kauai continues to offer pricing and a complete equipment list:
- Hyundai Kauai 1.0 T-GDI (120hp) — 21,500 euros;
- Hyundai Kauai 1.0 T-GDI (120hp) + pack plus — €22,950;
- Hyundai Kauai 1.6 CRDi 48 V (136 hp) — 28 825 euros;
- Hyundai Kauai 1.6 CRDi 48 V (136 hp) + pack plus — 30,275 euros;
- Hyundai Kauai 1.6 CRDi 48 V (136 hp) DCT7 — 30 650 euros;
- Hyundai Kauai 1.6 CRDi 48 V (136 hp) DCT7 + pack plus — 32 100 euros.
Regarding the hybrid and electric versions of the new Hyundai Kauai, there are still no prices. They reach the national market in the next quarter of 2021.
