Hyundai i20 arrives in Portugal with lower prices than its predecessor

Anonim

It is in early January that the new Hyundai i20 , but for those who don't want to wait, Hyundai Portugal has already running a pre-campaign until the end of the year (December 31), with a special launch price 1500 euros below the list price.

However, even not considering this campaign, when it starts marketing in Portugal, the new Hyundai i20 will present a list price below its predecessor, something that is not common to see.

The new range will be between 645 euros and 1105 euros more accessible for equivalent versions, although the new generation comes with more arguments in efficiency, connectivity and security — and without forgetting the style, much more striking in this third generation, which adopts the new vision of the Sensuous Sportiness brand.

How much does the new Hyundai i20 cost?

Prices start at €16,040 for the 1.2 MPi Comfort version and peak at €21,180 for the 1.0 T-GDI Style Plus with 7DCT dual-clutch gearbox:

i20, the most important

The importance of the i20 for Hyundai Portugal is clear: the utility vehicle represents 23% of the brand's sales in Portugal, translating into over 11 thousand units sold since the first i20 arrived in 2010. It is Hyundai's ambition that the new generation of the model soar higher, intruding among the leaders of the segment. Its competitive price is one of the arguments for achieving it, which makes it one of the most affordable proposals in the segment, after adding to its rivals the equipment that the i20 brings as standard.

national range

In Portugal, the initial range is divided into two engines, three transmissions and three levels of equipment. Starting with the engines, only gasoline engines will be available; there won't be Diesel engines or even electrified proposals, despite having been one of the South Korean brand's strongest bets lately.

So, we start with the 1.2 MPI , an atmospheric four-cylinder with 84 hp, coupled to a five-speed manual transmission (5MT). We already know it from its predecessor, but it arrives at the new Hyundai i20 with increased levels of efficiency. Both consumption and CO2 emissions are respectively 13.1% and 13.7% lower, standing at 5.3 l/100 km and 120 g/km.

Identical scenario for the 1.0 T-GDI , with three in-line cylinders and turbo, debiting 100 hp, and can be associated with either a six-speed manual gearbox (6MT) or a seven-speed dual-clutch (7DCT). The evolved 1.0 T-GDI announces lower consumption and emissions by, respectively, 8.5% and 7.5%, standing at 5.4 l/100 km and 120 g/km.

Moving on to the equipment lines, we have three: Comfort, Style and Style Plus. The first is exclusively associated with 1.2 MPI, while the two Style and Style Plus lines appear only associated with 1.0 T-GDI.

THE comfort , even being the access level, it already includes 16″ alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights and private rear windows (darkened). Inside we can count on manual air conditioning, a 10.25″ digital instrument panel and the new infotainment by Hyundai, accessible by an 8″ touchscreen. The highlight is the connectivity with the new i20 to bring in all versions Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but wirelessly.

When it comes to safety, the Comfort line is already available with autonomous emergency braking and a lane maintenance system (LKA). It also features automatic high beam, rear camera, rear parking sensors and driver attention alert

At the style , the wheels go up to 17″ and we now have three driving modes available. The air conditioning becomes automatic and we get a rain sensor. THE Style Plus adds Full LED, smart key and a front armrest. In the field of style, the bodywork becomes bi-tone.

And the i20 N… When will it arrive?

Here we are fans of pocket-rockets and when we saw it unveiled i20 N by the same people who gave us the i30 N, we have to admit that they left us on the edge. There is still no concrete date for the start of commercialization of the most rebellious variant of the new i20, but it will happen during the 2nd quarter of 2021.

Hyundai i20 N

It should arrive even a little earlier than the very well-received N Line versions — as has been seen in other models from Hyundai —, sportier looking, which will arrive at the end of the first half of 2021.

There is a version, however, that we will not see in Portugal, according to Hyundai. It is the mild-hybrid 48 V version equipped with the unprecedented intelligent manual gearbox, the iMT, associated with the 120 hp 1.0 T-GDI (or 100 hp, optionally). An electrified version that promises 3-4% less consumption and emissions and has a manual gearbox that manages to decouple the transmission from the engine whenever you take your foot off the accelerator, without having to put it in neutral. According to Hyundai Portugal, the cost-effectiveness of this version does not pay off in our market.
