The 2019 Geneva sports car: seven magnificent ones for you to discover

Anonim

If there is one thing that Geneva has not lacked, it is diversity. From electric models, futuristic prototypes, luxurious and unique models to two of the most important competitors in the B-segment — Clio and 208 — we could see a little of everything in this year's edition of the Swiss show, including sports. The sports car in Geneva 2019 they couldn't be more diverse either.

So, between electric or partially electrified proposals, and others proudly faithful to internal combustion engines, there was a little of everything.

From the usual suspects, such as Ferrari, Lamborghini or Aston Martin, to the (even) more exotic Koenigsegg or Bugatti, or even new proposals, such as the Pininfarina Battista, there was no lack of interest for performance fans.

They weren't the only ones. In this list we have gathered seven more, which in one way or another, stood out and are magnificent, each one in its own way. These are the… “7 Magnificent”…

Morgan Plus Six

The Morgans are like a classic fact. They are not the latest fashion (in fact, they can often look old-fashioned) but in the end, when we wear (or drive) one, we always end up standing out. Proof of this is the new Plus Six revealed in Geneva that… looks the same as above!

Morgan Plus Six

According to the British company, known for using wood in the construction of its chassis, the differences between the new model and its predecessor appear under the bodywork. The Plus Six (from which 300 will be produced per year) uses Morgan's CX-Generation platform, made up of aluminum and… wooden parts, which allowed it, cutting 100 kg to the weight of its predecessor.

Morgan Plus Six

With just 1075 kg , the Plus Six uses the same 3.0 l in-line six-cylinder BMW turbo engine used by the Z4 and… Supra (the B58). In Morgan's case the engine offers 340 hp and 500 Nm of torque transmitted to the rear wheels by an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission allowing the Plus Six to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2s and reach 267 km/h.

RUF CTR Anniversary

For fans of the models of yesteryear, another of the proposals that attracted the most attention in Geneva was the RUF CTR Anniversary . Shown in 2017 at the Swiss show as a prototype, this year it has already emerged as a production model.

RUF CTR Anniversary

Created to celebrate the construction company's 80th anniversary and heavily inspired by the mythical CTR “Yellow Bird”, the similarities between the CTR Anniversary and the 1980s model are purely visual. Made mostly of carbon fiber, it weighs just 1200 kg and is based on the first chassis developed from scratch by the RUF.

RUF CTR Anniversary

Equipped with a 3.6 l biturbo flat-six, the CTR Anniversary has around 710 hp . Very similar to the 2017 prototype, the CTR Anniversary is likely to have identical performance levels to the prototype. If that is the case, the maximum speed should be around 360 km/h and the 0 to 100 km/h are fulfilled in less than 3.5s.

Ginetta Akula

Another historic name among manufacturers dedicated to sports cars, the Ginetta emerged in Geneva with an old-school model in terms of motorization. Leaving aside the electrification fad, the (very) aggressive Akula resorts to a V8 with 6.0 l “matched” with a six-speed sequential gearbox of the brand and offers around 600 hp and 705 Nm of torque.

Ginetta Akula

With body panels and even the chassis produced in carbon fiber, the Ginetta Akula only accuses 1150 kg on the scale, this despite being the biggest Ginetta ever (of the road models). The aerodynamics were perfected in the Williams Wind Tunnel, which translates into a downforce at 161 km/h in the region of 376 kg.

With production scheduled to start at the end of the year and the first deliveries in January 2020, the Ginetta is expected to cost from 283 333 pounds (about 330 623 euros) excluding taxes. For now, the brand has already received 14 orders , with only plans to produce 20 in the first year of commercialization.

Lexus RC F Track Edition

Unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show, the RC F Track Edition made its first European appearance in Geneva. Despite the strong commitment to the hybridization of its range, Lexus still has in its catalog an RC F with a powerful V8 and 5.0 l atmospheric capable of delivering about 464 hp and 520 Nm of torque . If we add a slimming cure to that, we have the RC F track Edition.

Lexus RC F Track Edition

Created to rival the BMW M4 CS, the RC F Track Edition features aerodynamic improvements, multiple carbon fiber components (Lexcus claims the RC F Track Edition weighs 70 to 80 kg less than the RC F), ceramic discs from Brembo and 19” wheels from BBS.

Puritalia Berlinetta

In Geneva, Puritalia decided to unveil its latest model, the Berlinetta. Equipped with a plug-in hybrid system (not just hybrid as one came to think), the Berlinetta combines a 5.0l V8, 750hp engine with an electric motor mounted on the rear axle with the combined power fixed at 978hp and torque at 1248Nm.

Puritalia Berlinetta

Combined with the plug-in hybrid system comes a seven-speed semi-automatic gearbox. In terms of performance, the Berlinetta reaches 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7s and reaches 335 km/h. The autonomy in 100% electric mode is 20 km.

Puritalia Berlinetta

The driver can choose between three driving modes: Sport. Corsa and e-Power. With production limited to just 150 units, the Puritalia Berlinetta will only be sold to selected customers, starting at €553,350.

Rimac C_Two

Introduced about a year ago at the Geneva Motor Show, the Rimac C_Two appeared again this year at the Swiss Motor Show, however, the only novelty of the electric hypersports at the Geneva Motor Show 2019 was… a new paint job.

Rimac C_Two

Shown in eye-catching “Artic White” and bluish carbon fiber details, the C_Two's trip to Geneva was Rimac's way of reminding us that everything is going according to plan. Mechanically, it still has four electric motors with a combined power of 1914 hp and a torque of 2300 Nm.

This allows you to complete 0 to 100 km/h in 1.85s and 0 to 300 km/h in 11.8s. Thanks to a 120 kWh battery capacity, the Rimac C_Two offers 550 km of autonomy (already according to the WLTP).

His driving group also ended up finding a place at Pininfarina Battista, also presented at the Swiss salon.

Singer DLS

For fans of restomod (albeit in an extreme way, given the scope of the project) the biggest highlight is the name of Singer DLS (Dynamics and Lightweighting Study), which after having already made itself known at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, appeared again on European soil, this time at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

Singer DLS

The Singer DLS has ABS, stability control, and a glorious atmospheric flat-six air cooled developed by Williams (which had the mythical Hans Mezger as a consultant) and which charges about 500 hp at 9000 rpm.
