Is it you, Qashqai? IMQ Concept is the electrified future of Nissan crossovers

Anonim

Nissan took to the 2019 Geneva Motor Show the IMQ Concept , a prototype that, according to the Japanese brand, anticipates its next generation of crossovers. However, the truth is that what surprised the most about this prototype was not its design, but the e-POWER engine it uses.

But let's start with the design. With dimensions that place it in line with the proposals of segment C, we wouldn't be surprised if here were the blueprints of the next generation of Nissan's best-seller in Europe, the Qashqai.

Thus, in stylistic terms, and behind the “excesses” typical of prototypes, at the front there is the “V” grille (an evolution of the currently used one) that merges vertically with the bonnet and horizontally with the bumper. At the rear, the biggest highlight is the high positioning of the headlamps that feature the traditional “boomerang” format used by Nissan.

What is the e-POWER engine?

As we told you at the beginning of the article, despite anticipating the lines of future crossovers from Nissan, the biggest point of interest about the IMQ Concept is even the e-POWER engine with which it presented itself in Geneva.

Composed of a gasoline engine, an inverter, a battery and an electric motor, e-POWER uses the gasoline engine only and only as a power generator for the battery . In turn, this feeds the electric motor that ends up transmitting power to the wheels. In this way, the gasoline engine always works at the ideal speed, reducing consumption and emissions.

In the case of IMQ Concept, the e-POWER system offers a total of 250 kW (340 hp) of power and 700 Nm of torque transmitting power through a new multi-engine all-wheel drive system.

The e-POWER system is already available on the Japanese market on the Nissan Note and Serena, and is expected to debut in Europe in 2022. In addition to this system, the Nissan IMQ Concept also features the Nissan I2V system, topic that we have already covered.
