Audi invades Geneva with four new plug-in hybrids

Audi's electrification involves not only 100% electric models like the new e-tron, but also hybrids. At the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, Audi took not one, not two, but four new plug-in hybrids.

All of them will be integrated into the brand's existing ranges: Q5 TFSI e, A6 TFSI e, A7 Sportback TFSI and finally the A8 TFSI e.

With the exception of the A8, both the Q5, A6 and A7 will have an additional sportier version, incorporating a sportier tuning suspension, S Line exterior pack and a distinct plug-in hybrid system tuning with a focus on greater delivery of power by the electric motor.

Audi's plug-in hybrid system contains an electric motor integrated into the transmission — the A8 will be the only one with all-wheel drive — and has three modes: EV, Auto and Hold.

The first, EV, gives primacy to driving in electric mode; the second, Auto, automatically manages both engines (combustion and electric); and the third, Hold, holds the charge in the battery for later use.
