Nissan Micra. Next generation developed and produced by Renault

After having seen its future in Europe widely discussed in recent months, Nissan has now lifted the veil on the future of one of its oldest models in the “Old Continent” market: the Nissan Micra.

In an interview given to the French newspaper Le Monde, Ashwani Gupta — Operations director and current No. 2 of the Japanese brand — not only confirmed that there should be a sixth generation of the Micra, but also revealed that the development and production of this one will be in charge of Renault.

This decision is part of the leader-follower scheme through which the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance intends to start operating in order to maximize the competitiveness and profitability of the three companies, improving efficiency by sharing production and development.

Originally released in 1982, the Nissan Micra has already had five generations.

How is it currently?

If you remember correctly, the current generation of the Nissan Micra already uses the platform used by the Renault Clio and is even produced in a Renault factory in Flins, France.

Well, it seems, in the next generation of the two models, the proximity between them will be even greater, with all decisions being up to the French brand (from the production site to the industrial strategy).

Still on the future Nissan Micra, Ashwani Gupta stated that it should not arrive until 2023. Until then, the current Micra will remain on sale, being currently available in our market with a gasoline engine, the 1.0 IG-T from 100 hp, which can be associated with a manual transmission with five ratios or a CVT box.
