Based on Volkswagen's MQB platform, the new Arteon goes directly to the top of the Volkswagen range, assuming itself as the successor to the Passat CC and a rival to be considered for other German proposals – Audi A5 Sportback, BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé or the Opel Insignia Grand Sport.
More than the popular coupé shapes and the premium look, Arteon integrates Volkswagen's new design language – which we know in detail at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show – visible mainly in the front section.
In the range of engines, there are no surprises. Arteon is initially proposed with three direct injection turbo engines: the 2.0 TSI block with 280 hp and two 2.0 TDI blocks with 150 hp and 240 hp. The range will later be extended to three other engines in the fall: the new 150 hp 1.5 TSI Evo (with active cylinder management) and the 190 hp 2.0 TSI and 2.0 TDI blocks.
As for the transmission, the seven-speed DSG (dual clutch) gearbox will be available as standard for the 190 and 280 hp TSI and 240 hp TDI. The remaining versions will come as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, with the DSG as an option.
Volkswagen's 4MOTION all-wheel drive system will be standard on the 280hp TSI and the 240hp TDI, and will be available as an option on the 190hp TDI. All other versions will have front wheel drive.
Volkswagen will market its top of the range across Europe with three levels of equipment: “Basis”, “Elegance” and “R-Line”. All models are equipped with LED headlamps, progressive steering, the Lane Assist system for warning of involuntary departure from the lane, the Front Assist surveillance system with city emergency braking function, light alloy wheels and the system of Composition Media infotainment.
Prices
The Arteon is produced at the Volkswagen factory in Emden, Germany, and is already available in Portugal with prices starting at €43,286 (2.0 TDI of 150 hp). Check the price list below:
