The French brand is preparing an authentic SUV offensive for the Shanghai Motor Show and the new production model, the Citroën C5 Aircross, will reach European markets as early as next year.
Last year alone, Citroën had almost 250,000 units sold on the Chinese market, a market that is booming. Therefore, it is not surprising that the Shanghai Motor Show was the stage chosen by Citroën to present its new production model.
Don't be fooled by the images: these are effectively the renders that predict the new production model of the French brand, the Citroën C5 Aircross . Strongly inspired by the Aircross Concept presented in 2015, the SUV integrates the key elements of the brand's new design line and promises to use the latest technologies developed in-house.
One of them is the new suspension with progressive hydraulic dampers, one of the pillars of the concept named Citroën Advanced Comfort – you know this technology in detail here.
The C5 Aircross therefore starts a global Citroën offensive in the SUV universe. The new model will initially be sold in China in the second half of 2017, for further development and commercialization in Europe at the end of 2018. The official presentation is scheduled for next Tuesday (18th).
A new SUV, but not only
The news for the Shanghai Motor Show does not stop there. Next to the Citroën C5 Aircross will be the new C5 saloon , in the version designed for the Chinese market. According to Citroën, the new model will build on the strengths of the previous generation and will emphasize elegant, modern styling, but also comfort.NOT TO BE MISSED: Volkswagen Golf. In addition, two prototypes will make their absolute debut in the Chinese city. The first will be the C-Aircross (below), the model with crossover contours that anticipates the new generation of the Citroën C3 Picasso (scheduled for later this year) and which we could see in detail at the last Geneva Motor Show.
The second prototype will be the Experience Concept , also featured on the “Old Continent”, and which gives us some clues about the future of Citroën in the field of big saloons.
Finally, Citroën will take the C3-XR , an SUV exclusive to the Chinese market and which was even Dongfeng Citroën's second best-selling model in 2016. The Shanghai Show opens its doors to the public on April 21st.
