Successor to Land Rover Defender postponed

The historic model that went out of production a few weeks ago is not expected to have a replacement until 2019, according to sources close to Jaguar Land Rover.

Everything indicated that the new all-terrain vehicle from the British brand would reach the market in two years' time, but it seems that the next generation of the Land Rover Defender will only be known in 2019. According to Autocar, although the Defending is a priority, the huge demand and responsibility delayed the production phase.

Defender should adopt a monocoque aluminum structure and various types of bodywork, as the next model will have more than one version – a source close to the brand even claims that it is “a small family”.

Furthermore, contrary to expectations, the new Land Rover Defender will not be based on the Land Rover DC100, a concept presented at the 2011 edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show. Thus, the next model should not stray too far from its origins, and therefore a modern design is expected, but with the traditional minimalist lines that have marked one of the iconic models of the automobile industry.
