THE Land Rover Defender it may have even been unveiled a short time ago, but that doesn't mean the British brand lets itself “sleep in shape” and the fact that the iconic jeep promises a lot of new things for 2021 is proof of that.

From a plug-in hybrid version, to a new six-cylinder diesel engine, through to the three-door variant and the long-awaited commercial version, there is no lack of innovations for Defender.

The Plug-in Hybrid Defender

Let's start then with the Land Rover Defender P400e, the unprecedented plug-in hybrid version of the British jeep that in this way joins the Jeep Wrangler 4xe among the “pure and hard electrified”.

To cheer it up, we find a four-cylinder, 2.0 l turbocharged gasoline engine with 300 hp, which is associated with an electric motor with 105 kW (143 hp) of power.

The end result is 404 hp of maximum combined power, CO2 emissions of just 74 g/km and an advertised consumption of 3.3 l/100 km. In addition to these values, there is a range of 43 km in 100% electric mode, thanks to the battery with a capacity of 19.2 kWh.

Finally, in the performance chapter, electrification is also good, with the Defender P400e accelerating to 100 km/h in 5.6s and reaching 209 km/h.

Diesel. 6 better than 4

As we said, another of the news that Land Rover Defender will bring in 2021 is a new inline six-cylinder diesel engine with 3.0 l capacity, one of the newest members of the Ingenium engine family.

Combined with a 48 V mild-hybrid system, it has three power levels, with the most powerful of all, the D300 , offering 300 hp and 650 Nm.

So, in the new D250 power is fixed at 249 hp and torque at 570 Nm (an increase of 70 Nm compared to the D240). while the new D200 presents itself with 200 hp and 500 Nm (also 70 Nm more than before).
