Renault Mégane has been renovated and now has a plug-in hybrid version

Launched in 1995, the Renault Megane has been a sales success, having already sold seven million units. Now, five years after the launch of the fourth generation of the Mégane, Renault reinforces its arguments.

To start with, the Gallic brand reinforced its technological offer, offering Mégane a new 10.2” digital instrument panel, the Easy Link system with a 9.3” screen, new Pure Vision LED headlamps and even driving assistance systems such as the Highway and Traffic Assistance System, a level 2 autonomous driving technology.

Another novelty in the Mégane range is the replacement of the GT Line version by the new R.S. Line. Like the version it replaces, the R.S. Line offers the Renault Mégane a sportier look both inside and out.

It is in the rear optics that we can most easily see the differences.

Plug-in hybrid version is the big news

Despite the importance of technological reinforcement, the great news of the renewed Renault Mégane is the plug-in hybrid version. Named E-TECH, this "houses" a four-cylinder engine and 1.6 l capacity with two electric motors, obtaining 160 hp of combined power.

With this renovation, the Renault Mégane received the "Easy Link" system with a 9.3'' screen.

Powering the two electric motors we find a battery with 9.8 kWh (400 V) of capacity that allows Mégane to travel in 100% electric mode and up to 135 km/h around 50 km in a mixed circuit and 65 km in an urban circuit, all this according to the WLTP cycle.

Equipped with a multi-mode gearbox without a clutch, the Renault Mégane E-TECH will initially be available in a van format, this technology later arriving in the other bodies.

The first bodywork to be available with the plug-in hybrid system will be the Sport Tourer estate.

R.S. and R.S. Trophy are to keep

Although the Mégane won a hybrid plug-in variant, that does not mean that Renault has given up on performance. Therefore, both the R.S. and the more radical R.S. Trophy versions will continue to be part of the range of the Gallic familiar.

On the outside, new features are scarce, consisting only of a redesigned bumper and new LED headlights.

Among these, the big news is the fact that the R.S. version now has the same 300 hp as the R.S. Trophy variant. In the variant with EDC gearbox the torque rose to 420 Nm (+30 Nm), whereas in the version with manual gearbox it is fixed at 400 Nm.

Finally, the Renault Mégane R.S. Trophy continues to stand out for its Cup chassis equipped with a Torsen mechanical differential with self-locking, stiffer suspension springs and a stabilizer bar that is also stiffer than that found in the R.S version.
