First test of the Mercedes-Benz EQS. The most advanced car in the world?

The new Mercedes-Benz EQS is described by the German brand as the first luxury 100% electric car and was also the first to be designed from scratch to be electric.

The Mercedes-Benz platform dedicated to trams called EVA (Electric Vehicle Architecture) debuts, has unprecedented proportions for the brand and promises ample space and high comfort, in addition to expressive autonomy: up to 785 km.

Accompany Diogo Teixeira in discovering this unprecedented model — the S-Class of trams — which lets you guess what will be the future of Mercedes-Benz's top-of-the-range cars.

EQS, the first luxury electric

The new Mercedes-Benz EQS is about to start its commercial career in Portugal — sales start in October — and will be available in two versions, the EQS 450+ and the EQS 580 4MATIC+. It was with the 450+ that Diogo spent more time at the wheel, with prices starting at the now confirmed 129,900 euros. The EQS 580 4MATIC+ starts at 149,300 euros.

THE EQS 450+ comes equipped with just one engine mounted on the rear axle with 245 kW of power, the same as 333 hp. It's rear-wheel drive and it's also the EQS that goes the furthest, with its 107.8 kWh battery allowing up to 780 km of autonomy. Despite “accusing” practically 2.5 tons on the scale, it is capable of accelerating up to 100 km/h in 6.2s and reaching 210 km/h (limited).

If it's not a performance portent — for that there's the EQS 580+, with 385 kW or 523 hp, or the latest EQS 53 , the first 100% electric from AMG, with 560 kW or 761 hp — the EQS 450+ more than makes up for it with its interior that is as refined as it is sophisticated.

It's impossible not to notice the optional MBUX Hyperscreen, which runs across the interior (141 cm wide), an interesting contrast to the other materials, more common in luxury vehicles, that we find in the cabin.

141 cm wide, 8-core processor and 24 GB of RAM. These are the MBUX Hyperscreen numbers.

The other great advantage of the EVA platform are the large levels of habitability, achieved largely because of the enormous 3.21 m wheelbase (you can park a Smart fortwo between them), as well as the flat floor, which dispenses with the usual and intrusive transmission tunnel.

As a luxury vehicle and capable of carrying out long runs at once — not always a guarantee in today's trams — it also stands out for its comfort on board and, above all, for “criticism-proof soundproofing”, as Diogo found out.

At DC (direct current) fast charging stations, the German top of the range will be able to charge up to a power of 200 kW.
