Cold Start. Does it give a fight? Golf R measures forces with the AMG A 45 S

The new Volkswagen Golf R — which we've driven — is the most powerful production Golf ever with 320 hp. Maybe even a little more, as revealed on a recent “visit” to the power bank.

Facing the main German competitors — Mercedes-AMG A 35, Audi S3 and BMW M135i — the Volkswagen Golf R didn't even need to “sweat” to get the better of a drag race organized by Carwow.

Now, the aforementioned British publication has raised the bar and placed the Volkswagen Golf R to face the most powerful four-cylinder block in the world in production, which is shown here in all its splendor, under the hood of the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4MATIC+.

With 421 hp of power and with a time from 0 to 100 km/h of just 3.9s, the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S is, theoretically, much faster than the Volkswagen Golf R, which needs 4.7s to fulfill the same exercise, not least because both have four-wheel drive systems.

On paper, the Affalterbach brand hot hatch is second only to the Volkswagen Golf R in weight — 1635 kg against 1551 kg, respectively. But are these differences really that obvious in practice? Find out the answer in the video below:
