We already know the power of the future Golf GTI, Golf R and Golf GTD

We've barely recovered from yesterday's late afternoon revelation of the new Volkswagen Golf — the eighth generation — and the news has not stopped falling on the little Germanic relative.

Volkswagen's speech for the new Golf revolved a lot around its increased efficiency and reduced consumption. There are five electrified versions, three mild-hybrid (eTSI) and two plug-in hybrid (eHybrid); TSI engines using the most efficient Miller cycle; there is also a TGI (natural gas) version… and there was no lack of TDI, which promises 80% reduced NOx emissions.

If efficiency and low emissions are the order of the day — regulations require it — will there be room for performance and fun in the new Volkswagen Golf?

Of course it does — Volkswagen didn't shy away from revealing that, during the next year, we should meet the Golf GTI, Golf GTI TCR, Golf GTD and Golf R that will join the Golf GTE unveiled yesterday. All bases appear to be covered.

The GTI TCR was the last sporty version of the Golf 7 that we know of. Will be back at Golf 8.

Horses, horses, we want lots of horses…

Volkswagen internal sources, in statements to Razão Automóvel, added to the revelation of the “racing” versions of the new Golf the power numbers that each of these versions will have.

So, starting with the acronym that started it all, the Golf GTI , this will remain true to the EA888, which is so to speak, the ubiquitous and excellent 2.0 TSI. In the new GTI it will reach 245 hp — the same power as the Golf GTI Performance we tested 18 months ago. It's also the same horsepower as the new Golf GTE, which marries the 1.4 TSI with an electric motor and the six-speed DSG gearbox — a comparative future...

Does it seem like little? The GTI will be accompanied by a Golf GTI TCR — the only one for which we didn't get a power value. However, considering the 290 hp of the current GTI TCR — a great farewell to the current generation — it is to be expected that the new one will at least equal this value (we already know how many horses it will have — continue to the end of the article).

Above the GTI TCR is the Golf R . Like the GTI, and as with the current Golf R, it will continue to benefit from the services of the same EA888. The difference is in the number of horses, which go up from the current 300 hp to still juiciest 333 hp . As always, the Golf R will have four-wheel drive (4Motion).

Contrary to what we've seen in other Golf 8s, the Golf GTI, Golf GTI TCR and Golf R will not be hybridized, as will the future. Golf GTD it shouldn't be. The latest member of the fast Golf family will keep the EA288, albeit updated, from its predecessor. The potency also went up — for the first time the GTD reaches 200 hp (184 hp in the predecessor).

Come from there 2020…

… and 2020 arrived

It was almost three months ago that we brought you firsthand what to expect from the spicier versions of the new Volkswagen Golf. Now we have what appears to be confirmation, via an Instagram post by CocheSpias, whose image that illustrates it appears to have been taken from a Volkswagen TV broadcast.

The 245 hp for the Golf GTI and Golf GTE, the 200 hp for the Golf GTD and the 333 hp for the Golf R are confirmed. we had information available. Apparently it will have around 300 hp, 10 hp more than the GTI TCR we already know. And all of them should be known during this year.
