Lexus UX: everything you know about the new Japanese crossover

Anonim

Scheduled for release in 2019, the Lexus UX is still in its embryonic stage, however, it is already possible to get a glimpse of what is to come.

Although it is already in the development phase, little is known about the new Lexus UX, the brand's new premium compact crossover. The model name itself has not yet been confirmed – the UX designation had already been used as an abbreviation for the brand's User Experience concept.

The Lexus UX is expected to be based on the Lexus CT, which has been marketed at a slower pace than expected and which shares the platform with the Toyota Prius. As such, the Lexus UX will be able to integrate components with the Japanese hybrid or even with the new Toyota C-HR, presented at the last Geneva Motor Show.

As for powertrains, last February Lexus registered patents in Europe for three different units, which present themselves as strong possibilities to integrate this new model: UX 200 (atmospheric 2.0 liter engine), UX 250 (atmospheric 2.5 liter ) and the UX 250h hybrid (2.4 liter gasoline block with an electric motor).

In aesthetic terms, the purely speculative images from the Japanese publication Mag-X show us how the brand's design philosophy could be incorporated into the new Lexus crossover – a low-rise and coupé shapes are expected. Judging by the dimensions advanced by the Japanese press – 4400 × 1800 × 1560 mm – the Lexus UX should compete mainly with two strong German proposals in the segment: Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X1.
