The Crystal Wheel, an award that for 34 years has distinguished the best automotive product launched in Portugal each year, was delivered yesterday in Lisbon at the awards ceremony for the Essilor Car of the Year/Cristal Wheel Trophy. A prize that, since 2015, has had Razão Automóvel among the panel of judges.
In addition to the Peugeot 3008, a number of other models were also distinguished in the different classes of Car of the Year. The PSA Group once again had a victory, this time with the new Citroen C3 being named City of the Year, while another French brand, Renault won the Family of the Year award with the new Renault Mégane.
In the Crossover class of the year, victory was achieved by SEAT Ateca, who also deserved the public's preference in an online voting.
Another brand that won two awards was Volvo, which won the Van of the Year class with its Volvo V90, and also won the Innovation and Technology Award with the Volvo Pilot Assist system.
Finally, Hyundai was honored in the Green of the Year class with its hybrid Hyundai Ioniq.
The Jury, composed of 18 journalists representing some of the most important Portuguese media, tested all the models in the competition over a period of about three months, analyzing items as diverse as safety, economy, efficiency, performance, competitiveness or dynamic behavior.
Organized by Expresso and SIC, the Essilor Car of the Year/Trophy Volante de Cristal has been awarded since 1983, the year in which the Nissan Micra conquered the victory. The Peugeot 3008 thus succeeds the Opel Astra that was chosen by the Jury in the last edition.
